שושנה עדאַגבאַמי, מײַן ייִדישע נשמהלע

איך האָּב אַ ייִדישע נשמהלע.
עטלעכע מענטשן ווייסן ניט וועגן איר,
אַנדערע מענטשן פֿאַרשטייען זי ניט,
און אַנדערע מענטשן וועלן זי קיין מאָל ניט אָננעמען.
זי וועט זיי קיין מאָל ניט געפֿעלן,
אָבער דאָס אַרט מיך ניט.
די ייִדישע נשמהלע איז מײַנע.
עס איז דאָ אַ פּינטעלע ייִד אין מיר,
און דאָס וואָס מײַן ייִדישע נשמהלע זאָגט מיר איז אמת.
ייִדיש איז ניט ‘דזשיבריש‘ אָדער ‘סווידיש‘ אָדער ‘גריניש‘ אָדער ‘בידיש.‘

The University of Ottawa’s first intensive Yiddish Program has wrapped up after six weeks of classes, lectures, workshops, films and fieldtrips. The students in the course have produced original projects that reflect active engagement with Yiddish: a family cookbook, a series of plays, original Yiddish poetry, Yiddish translations of children’s literature and popular music, English translations of Yiddish songs, a family history, and a Yiddish comic.  Samples of these projects will be posted on this site.
